Residential Rugby Camp a huge success

Figure image
Young rugby players have travelled from across the world to join Leicester Tigers on the residential Rugby Camp at Bishop Burton College.

The sold-out camp is being attended by the Ontario Junior Blues Under-16s, who are using it as preparation for their new season in Canada.

And players have flown in from Dubai, Germany, Hong Kong and Switzerland to take part in the camp while others have travelled from around the UK, including Cornwall, Scotland and Wales.

The players will be able to learn from the club’s Academy players and coaches, who are holding their pre-season training camp at the college at the same time.

Tigers have close links with Bishop Burton College. It is the fourth year that Tigers have held a residential camp at the campus near Beverley, Yorkshire, the third time that the Academy have visited in their pre-season build-up while the first-team squad staged a week-long training camp there last season.

Scott Clarke, Tigers community manager, said: "It is fantastic to be there at the same time as the Academy, and will really give players on our Rugby Camp a feel of what it would be like to spend a week as an elite rugby player.

"It is an outstanding opportunity for young and ambitious rugby players who have aspirations to develop their game.”

There is still time to register for a Tigers Rugby Camp this summer. Tigers will be running camps next week (August 12-16) at Lutterworth, Market Bosworth and Market Rasen & Louth rugby clubs. In response to demand from younger players, there are also tag rugby camps for under-sevens and under-eights at Market Bosworth and Market Rasen & Louth (August 12-14).
