Salvi topped Premiership tackle stats

Julian Salvi made more tackles than any other player in the Aviva Premiership last season, according to official data provider Opta.

The Leicester Tigers back rower completed 213 tackles during the season, nine more than Worcester’s James Percival, who made the second most tackles in the league.

And Salvi, the Supporters’ Player of the Year for Tigers last season, also won the most number of turnovers in the Aviva Premiership poaching 28 turnovers, 10 more than second-placed Billy Twelvetrees (Gloucester Rugby).

Tigers teammate Thomas Waldrom had the joint third highest tackle completion rate with 97 per cent, according to the statistics released at the Aviva Premiership launch event at Twickenham on Thursday.

Geoff Parling made the most lineout steals with 11, alongside Chris Jones of Worcester and Bath Rugby’s Ben Skirving and Stuart Hooper.

Graham Kitchener won 69 lineouts, putting him joint seventh with Dave Attwood (Bath Rugby). Parling and Ernst Joubert (Saracens) were just behind with 68 lineouts won.

Rob Hawkins had the highest lineout throwing success rate in the Aviva Premiership with 95 per cent, ahead of Schalk Brits (Saracens).

Anthony Allen made the second highest number of try assists in the Aviva Premiership with six, one more than Toby Flood and George Ford.

Jordan Crane made the second highest number of carries in the Aviva Premiership (210 carries), Sam Harrison was in the top ten for the highest number of passes in the season and Manu Tuilagi was also in the top ten for the number of defenders beaten.
