Playing 4 Health brings clubs together

More than 200 city youngsters enjoyed a day with Leicester Tigers and the county's other major sports clubs at the Playing 4 Health annual festival at New College this week.

Tigers have joined forces with Leicester City FC, Leicester Riders basketball club, Leicestershire & Rutland Cricket and Leicester Hockey Club in a unique programme which allows pupils in Years 3 and 4 to participate in a number of sports.

Thanks to the support of Public Health Leicester City Council and using the legacy of the 2012 Olympics, the clubs have provided coaching and guidance in school sessions designed to create an awareness of the benefits of being active, making healthy choices and playing regular sport.

Dan Thacker, Tigers' Playing 4 Health officer, delivered coaching through the programme and at Tuesday’s festival and said: “The Playing 4 Health programme allows us to give five weeks of coaching in our own sports in schools and then all the clubs come together with the children for the annual festival.

“Tuesday’s festival was a really good event all round and it was great to see so many schoolchildren getting involved in the different sports.”
