The rugby players from De Montfort University have ended the season on top of the leaderboard in the Big Boot competition run on Leicester Tigers matchdays.Sponsored by De Montfort University, the Big Boot fires rugby balls high into the air for team of 10 to catch, encouraged by big home crowds at Welford Road.
Although no visitors were able to claim a jackpot prize for a full set of catches, it was the students from the university who set the season’s best with seven catches at half-time in the Aviva Premiership match against Saracens in November.
Teams from Meden Vale and Warley rugby clubs claimed five catches, and they were joined in the penultimate home game by visitors from Welsh visitors Ystradgynlais RFC
The final entrants of the season came from Bito Storage Systems at half-time in Saturday’s match against Northampton Saints and they claimed four catches.
Paul Kelly was among their successful catchers and said: “It’s great, though I was a bit nervous. The guys at Bito talked about coming down for the game and asked if I wanted a go. It’s just great fun, especially with a big crowd.”
The Big Boot is one of the activities open to group bookings on Tigers matchdays. For more information, phone the Tigers Group Days team on 0116 2171 216.
