Freddie Burns says the Leicester Tigers will be "excited" by the challenge of going to unbeaten league leader Saracens this weekend. After a 22-10 victory over Newcastle Falcons at Welford Road on Boxing Day, Tigers return to action at Allianz Park on Saturday at the start of a crucial period with Northampton Saints to follow in the Aviva Premiership and then the final two weeks of European Champions Cup pool fixtures against Benetton Treviso and Stade Francais.
“Everyone knew coming into the season with how it was scheduled that it was going to be tough game after tough game,” said Burns.
“It’s a huge challenge next week and something that will excite us. Saracens have been unbeaten at their place and we will work hard this week to prepare. We’ll get back to work and go down there and give it a crack and see where we end up.”
Burns scored two touchline conversions in the win over the Falcons, but admitted disappointment at Tigers’ failure to pick up a bonus-point win after scoring three tries but seeing other opportunities go begging.
“We made a slow start, but give a lot of credit to Newcastle and how they approached the game,” he said.
“We deserved the win and credit for weathering the storm. We missed a couple of opportunities which could have made the win more comfortable. It is frustrating not to get the bonus point when we scored the second try at the start of the second half.
“We were our own worst enemy at times, but it is another win in a tricky stage of the year. We’ll take it and get better and look forward to Saracens next week.”
