35 local business leaders from East Midlands and beyond came together to raise money, resources and awareness for rough sleeping at last week's CEO Sleepout at Mattioli Woods Welford Road.

The volunteers have already raised just over £23,000, but with donations still open, they're looking to push the total past the £25,000 mark.

As well as that exceptional figure, there was also over 100 duvet and pillow sets from Voco (owners of the nearby Hotel Brooklyn) and 100 bobble hats, 100 tops and 100 towels donated by Leicester Tigers Club Shop. All of these items will be distributed to relevant local charities linked to homelessness.

The event itself also saw a very generous donation from local restaurant Spice Bazzar, who provided all attendees with curries, rice and sundries as part of their ongoing charitable works in the Leicestershire community.

Asked about the success of the event, CEO of the Leicester Tigers Foundation, Sam Swift said "Once again CEO Sleepout Leicester proved to be an eye-opening experience into the harsh reality of the ongoing challenges faced by the homeless community.

"Hearing from those who have slept rough and the inspirational stories of their revivals leaves long lasting impressions on all the guests. The whole event has helped produce fantastic fundraising and vital awareness across the Leicestershire business community.

One of the attendees, ex-Leicester Tigers player Martin Whitcombe added "I didn’t realise how many people are sleeping rough today, sadly many are ex-service men.

"It’s the first time I’ve supported the CEO Sleepout but from now on I will make it an annual event".
