Leicester Tigers were delighted to welcome Matt Hampson during half-time in the European Champions Cup fixture with Munster as he showed his support for the Leicester Tigers Foundation.Matt was joined by Roy Jackson and Tommy Cawston from his Foundation, along with his Foundation ambassadors Louis Deacon, Harry Ellis, Freddie Tuilagi and Ian ‘Dosser’ Smith.
His Foundation and the Tigers Community team have been working together to raise awareness and support for those seriously injured through sport and life events.
Matt’s Foundation has confirmed its commitment to support disability sport with the Leicester Tigers Foundation and, in particular, the Tigers Wheelchair Rugby team.
Last year, in their first season in the Premier League, the Tigers Wheelchair team finished in second place and firmly put the new squad on the map in domestic and European competitions.
The Leicester Tigers Foundation is looking to raise more funds to help the wheelchair rugby programme develop and build on that success, creating opportunities for more potential players to participate in this growing and exciting variation of the game.
Scott Clarke, Tigers Foundation trustee, said: “It was great to have Matt and his ambassadors down to Welford Road to celebrate the year and raise the profile of what we are trying to do for disability sport within the Tigers Foundation.
“The Tigers Wheelchair Rugby Team has been an inspiration to all and we need more support to grow what we can do to promote and bring opportunity to those who currently don’t have a pathway to experience the game or benefit from the physical, social and psychological positives that sport can provide.
“In Matt we have an amazing role model who has shown us what is possible if you don’t take no for an answer. His leadership has accomplished so much since his injury, and his support, together with the support of the Matt Hampson Foundation, for the Tigers Wheelchair Rugby team has enabled it to build and develop.”
The Tigers Foundation aims to build on the inspiration of the Tigers Wheelchair players and do more to support those with disabilities and extra needs. To do this we are looking for partners and sponsors to help us develop a school and community focused programme giving more people the chance to enjoy sport and participation.
If anyone is keen to get involved or donate to the Tigers Foundation disability sport programme, you can contact them at www.tigersfoundation.org
Thanks to Matt and everyone at his Foundation for their continued support.
