Thumbs up from Chuter for Tigers Challenge

George Chuter joined hundreds of young players, their coaches and families to celebrate the end of the Tigers Challenge at Butlins Minehead.

Chuter, who made his 200th start for Tigers in Saturday’s Aviva Premiership semi-final, joined teams from across the country at the Somerset seaside resort for a new format of mini and junior rugby festival.

Players from 96 teams aged from under-7 to under-14 took part in a series of competitive games and had the use of the resort’s leisure and entertainment facilities.

Chuter joined them for a gala ceremony, handing out prizes and awards.

“Everyone had a great time,” he said. “The atmosphere was great, not just from the players but also the coaches and the parents.”

Ashley Tisshaw, from Minehead U10s, said: “The kids had a fantastic time, as did the parents, and the club as a whole. It will be talked about for a long time to come as one of the highest profile events that has graced the rugby club and the town. Roll on the next Tigers Challenge.”

Martyn Young, director of organisers ESF Events Ltd, said: “In total, 96 teams from all over the country and more than 4000 young players and their families took park in the festival. The feedback has been fantastic.

“We’ve already had a flood of bookings from teams hoping to join us for the 2013 Tigers Challenge and we can’t wait to do it all again next year.

“We’re sure the Tigers Challenge will go on from here to become one of the most prestigious mini and youth rugby festivals in the UK”.

The sold out Butlins Minehead event was the second Tigers Challenge of the season, following on from a successful tournament at Butlins Skegness.

Tigers are already taking expressions of interest for next year’s Tigers Challenge. More information is available from the Tigers community team on 0844 856 1880.
