On the odd occasions when Tigers were required to wear an alternate kit, they had mostly run out in red, but a blue shirt incorporating green, white and red bands was launched in the mid-90s, together with sponsor logo, as the game’s professional era in its infancy.
Players were suddenly contracted to their clubs and soon there was cross-border competition with the birth of the European Cup which was added to the calendar alongside league, cup and club matches.
Described as an entire Himalayan range, Richards become the second forward to score 100 tried for the club and led the club into the professional era. He was awarded the MBE in 1996, later taking on coaching roles in England's top division.
