The hoops were reduced, but there were plenty of reasons to be cheerful at the Tigers. The City Council made the club Freemen of the City just two months after their Heineken Cup win in Paris, while Super League once more visited Welford Road and the Tigers remained on top of the league table as they also defended their European title. 

In December, with the gap over the chasing pack in the league reaching nine points, it was an appropriate moment for the Council’s renaming of the road from Leicester Station towards the stadium Tigers Way in acknowledgement of the club’s achievements.
