Safeguarding Manager

Location: Mattioli Woods Welford Road Stadium, Leicester & Oval Park Training Ground, Oadby.
Closing Date: Wednesday, December 22, 2021.
Interviews: Week commencing 3 January 2022.

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our amazing team at Leicester Tigers as our Safeguarding Manager. Reporting to the Head of HR, this role will to act as the central point of contact for any safeguarding related matters across the Club. 

The role will focus on ensuring the implementation and regular review of Leicester Tigers Safeguarding Policies, as well as all associated procedures, education and training. The goal will be to continually strive towards ensuring that all facets of the Leicester Tigers environment and operations are an example of best practice safeguarding within sport. 

As a new role within the structure, we would expect the successful candidate to focus on:

Primary Responsibilities

  • Working closely with the Head of HR (Safeguarding Lead) to regularly review all safeguarding policies and procedures, present these to the CEO and Board for approval, and communicate any changes appropriately across the Club;
  • Being responsible for liason with, and reporting to the RFU any safeguarding concerns.
  • Following consultation with the RFU Safeguarding Team, be responsible for the initial management and investigation of all safeguarding concerns for both adults and children at Leicester Tigers;
  • Working closely with key Heads of Function (i.e. Academy, Community and Women’s & Girls) to ensure safeguarding policies and procedures are being implemented effectively within each relevant context;
  • Developing and maintain a safeguarding specific risk register; updating both the Head of HR and CEO on any developments;
  • Being present and act as the primary point of contact for all safeguarding related matters on Match Days (and other public events) held at Mattioli Woods Welford Road;
  • Attending pre and post-match meetings to ensure that safeguarding remains a prominent agenda point;
  • Working closely with the Academy Manager in relation to the planning and execution of all Academy events; attending Academy Matches where required to provide additional safeguarding support;
  • Regularly visiting all satellite sites (i.e. Rugby Camps and/or Academy Outreach Centres) with the aim of facilitating safeguarding best practice at each;
  • Working closely with the Head of Facilities to ensure physical environments (both Mattioli Woods Welford Road and Oval Park Training Ground) that are safe and conducive of safeguarding best practice;
  • Working with the HR Function to ensure a robust and effective safer recruitment process is in place and implemented accordingly;
  • Delivering all elements of a new employees induction related to safeguarding specifically;
  • Working closely with the HR Function and the Club’s Data Protection Officer to ensure the appropriate storage and handling of all safeguarding related data/information;
  • Designing and implement an awareness and education programme that complies with minimum standards criteria, but also expands beyond this to ensure that the wider workforce is appropriately trained to support a safe and productive environment for all;
  • Ensuring that all eligible staff of Leicester Football Club plc (Leicester Tigers) have undergone an appropriate, RFU-processed DBS check in accordance with current Government legislation and RFU regulations and policy;
  • Liaising with the RFU Safeguarding Team and any other relevant external bodies (i.e. Partners) in relation to any safeguarding matters;
  • Facilitating a progress presentation to the Board of Directors at least twice per year;
  • Working with the Head of HR (Safeguarding Lead) to ensure that all information pertaining to safeguarding audit criteria is present and stored appropriately, ready for demonstration;
  • Developing the Club’s position within a wider safeguarding network to ensure access to the latest knowledge and approaches; establishing the Club as an example of safeguarding best practice within sports;
  • Carrying out any other duties and tasks that are required, and are within the post-holder’ capabilities.

Ideally, the successful candidate would have the following:

Essential Criteria:

  • Designated Safeguarding Officer training or equivalent;
  • The ability to obtain an Enhanced RFU DBS Certificate;
  • Significant experience of managing safeguarding cases;
  • Excellent knowledge of best practice and legal frameworks for safeguarding and child protection;
  • Demonstrable experience of effectively handling confidential and sensitive matters;
  • A strong history of excellent communication skills, collaborative team work and stakeholder influencing;
  • The ability to work remotely at times; managing your own schedule and work priorities;
  • A clear aptitude for creating and maintaining excellent written records;
  • The ability to demonstrate a thorough history of personal development;
  • A full and valid UK driving licence, as well as access to own vehicle;
  • Eligible to work in the UK.

Along with the above, it would be helpful if the successful candidate met some or all of the following criteria, but by no means is it essential.

Desirable Criteria:

  • Experience and knowledge of safeguarding within a sports club;
  • Experience of successfully evaluating and building ‘new look’ policies and procedures from the bottom up;
  • Successful completion of the RFU “In Touch”, “Play it Safe” and “Online Safeguarding Awareness” training courses;
  • Competent and comfortable in the use of various IT software packages, including Microsoft Office.

At Leicester Tigers, we are excited to announce that with the return of Match Days, we are looking for Catering/Bar Staff to start at this weekend's match (Saturday, September 18).

  • You must have the right to work in the UK and have a passport and National Insurance Number.
  • Available to work on Saturday, September 18 in a hospitality or retail bar role.
  • Can travel to Leicester Tigers Mattioli Woods Welford Road.

The Role:

At Leicester Tigers, we are excited to announce that with the return of spectators on the horizon we are looking to expand our Casual Match Day workforce, specifically within our pool of Match Day Stewards.

The role of the Match Day Steward is to ensure that all visitors to Leicester Tigers experience a safe and enjoyable Match Day experience. Our Match Day Stewards will assist with the circulation of spectators, prevent overcrowding, reduce the incidence of disorder or incident and provide the means to investigate, report and take early action in an emergency (as per green guide).

Additional responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Promoting the health, safety and welfare of all spectators, other stewards, ground staff and themselves;
  • Carrying out safety checks;
  • Directing spectators who are entering or leaving the ground, to achieve an even flow of people to and from the viewing areas.
  • Assisting in the safe operation of the stadium;
  • Staffing entrances, exits and other strategic points;
  • Recognising crowd conditions so to ensure the safe dispersal of spectators and the prevention of overcrowding, particularly on terraces or viewing slopes;
  • Understanding key points connected to Counter Terrorism prevention and management;
  • Assisting the emergency services as required;
  • Undertaking specific duties in an emergency or as directed by the safety officer or the appropriate emergency safety officer;
  • Providing basic emergency first aid;
  • Responding to emergencies (such as the early stages of a fire), to raise the alarm and take the necessary immediate action;
  • Treating all employees, stakeholders and customers with dignity and respect, ensuring the Tigers values and behaviours are always demonstrated;
  • Carrying out any other duties and tasks required by management, which are within the post-holders capabilities.
  • Upholding the Club’s values of: Club First, Tough, Passionate and Driven.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Ensuring a first class service is given to all customers whilst visiting the Tigers shop, especially through communication.
  • Ensuring that the stock is maintained to a high standard of presentation and to familiarise yourself with all products and their position within the store.
  • Awareness of all the team on the shop floor and the needs of the day.
  • Complying with the Health and Safety procedures.
  • Ensuring that all Security procedures are strictly adhered too.
