Leicester Tigers extended their unbeaten start to the Under-18 Academy League with a six-try victory over Worcester Warriors on Saturday.

The tries were evenly split over first and second halves as Tigers made it three games without defeat and secured a 42-14 victory over their visitors in a fixture played at Loughborough University.

Flanker Xander Purcell provided the breakthrough for Tigers with less than  an hour played, finishing from close range after some forceful work among the forwards, and two minutes later wing Zack Godfrey showed his pace out wide to beat the covering defence and extend the lead. Fly-half Sam Costelow kicked the conversions as Tigers led 14-0.

A solo score on the opposite flank from Luke Phoenix, beating three defenders in a 40-metre run to the line, was also converted by Costelow as Tigers held a 21-0 advantage at half-time.

But the game was not over as a contest as two tries from Warriors cut the gap to a single score approaching the midway point in the second half before Tigers pulled away again.

First, lock George Martin powered his way over the line after a period of sustained pressure among the forwards to provide some breathing space again and two tries in the last 10 minutes closed out an impressive victory in cold and rainy conditions.

First, No8 Henri Lavin finished off some more good work from the forwards, getting over the whitewash just to the right of the posts, and then in the last action of the match, replacement scrum-half Jonny Law broke through in the Warriors 22 to add a sixth score, with Costelow providing both conversions.
