Leicester Tigers were defeated 7-58 in the 25/26 PWR Cup opener against Bristol Bears Women at Burton RFC on Sunday.
In what could be described as a game of two halves, an inexperienced Leicester side, featuring twelve debutants, suffered a tough opening 40 minutes to the 25/26 campaign with the Bears registering 46 points before the young Tigers showed their fight and never-give-up attitude to see the second half finish 7-12.
Leicester showed their defensive resolve in the opening stages of the game, with an undeniable effort on show from the team to defend their line against Bristol, who couldn't get over for almost ten minutes, with their opening try coming in the 9th minute.
Again, the team was tested and continued to fight for one another until the Bears were able to get over for a second in the 20th minute to make it 0-12.
The visitors registered six more tries in the first half, which included two in as many minutes on the stroke of half-time, to take a 46-point lead into the break.
Bristol came out firing again in the second, crossing for their ninth try in the 45th minute to make it 0-53 with just over half an hour remaining. But, in front of a loud, supportive crowd at Burton RFC, the young Leicester group kept fighting and were rewarded with a try, to replacement Ella-Mae Fereday, in the 66th minute. Tess Feury converted the score to make it 7-53.
The Bears added their tenth try in the 79th minute to make the final score 7-58.
