Born in Bloemfontein, EW Viljoen gained representative honours at Schools and Under-20s level in South Africa with Western Province and the Stormers, and agreed a move to Leicester Tigers in 2019.
A centre who has also played at wing and full-back, Viljoen made his Currie Cup debut with Western Province as a teenager in 2014 and then went to the World Under-20 Championship in 2015, starting the semi-final against England and the third-place game against France on the way to collecting a bronze medal.
He played in the Under-13 Craven Week tournament with Free State in 2008 and at Under-18 level in 2012 and ’13 before playing for South African Schools in victories over England and France.
After moving to Cape Town with Western Province in 2013, he made his Currie Cup debut a year later and became part of the Stormers’ wider training squad as well as playing in the Under-21 Provincial Championship, where he also gained experience as captain.
A Super Rugby debut with the Stormers followed in 2017 and EW became a regular selection over the next two seasons before completing a move to Tigers ahead of the 2019/20 season.
