A fly-half with experience at full-back and centre, Johnny McPhillips was an academy level footballer with Newcastle United before turning to rugby at Sedbergh School.
He made such good progress in the sport that he was capped at Under-18 level by England then, following a move to Belfast, he made 24 appearances for Ulster in two seasons and played a leading role in the Ireland Under-20s squad that reached the World Junior Championships Final in 2016.
He moved to Leicester for the start of the 2019/20 season and made eight first-team appearances in his debut season despite suffering a knee ligament injury in his first Premiership start, at Saracens in March.
