Sam Edwards joined the Leicester Tigers academy from the DPP bases at Mount St Mary’s and Newark.

DPP coaches Diccon Edwards and Steve Grainger played a prominent role in his development in junior rugby, while he also played club level at Selby and in schools rugby with Queen Ethelburga’s College before moving to Brooksby Melton College as he entered the Tigers academy.

He says: “Because my dad and my older brother played, it seemed a natural thing to do to join my local club and play rugby. From there, I came into the DPP and then into the academy here.

“I’ve always loved watching rugby, whichever game it is, I just liked watching it.”

He was among four Tigers academy players selected for the England Under-18 development tour to South Africa in the August 2019.

A keen cricketer, Sam still plays at Burn Cricket Club when time allows and is a useful batsman.
