Designed to help 16-24 year olds not in education, Employment or Training, the HITZ programme helps young people to tackle challenges that can lead them astray.
HITZ uses rugby as a platform to support the development of social, employability and vocational skills to help vulnerable individuals.
Delivered nationally by Premiership Rugby and funded by partners Comic Relief, Land Rover, CSL and Wooden Spoon, the course provides the building blocks for people to help them take control of their future.
The course offers the opportunity to gain relevant sporting qualifications, alongside employability and money management skills.
How the course works?
With the help of our enthusiastic staff, we hope that the young people that attend will be able to leave with a new found confidence and readiness to succeed in education or employment.
This could be you...
The Leicester Tigers Hitz project has helped me grow in confidence and I have found it to be really informative. It has given me the opportunity to do things I never thought I would be able to do whilst gaining the skills that are going to help me get full time employment.Ryan Lount, HITZ participant
Over 80% of participants in the HITZ programme regularly report an increase in resilience, self-confidence and aspiration as a result of their involvement, and over 75% go on to achieve a positive progression into further education, training or employment.

Anthony O’Reilly, HITZ Officer
Graduating from Staffordshire University with a 2:1 (BA Hons) Degree in Sports Development and Coaching, I have a substantial amount of experience supporting young people with learning and behavioural difficulties.
Previous employment includes working as a Cover Supervisor in a Pupil Referral Unit, a Sport and Leisure Activity Leader for Charnwood Borough Council in priority neighbourhoods and an International Summer School.
A keen Rugby enthusiast, HITZ provides me with the opportunity to combine my love of sport with my passion to help young people from different backgrounds.
Pete Thorpe, HITZ Tutor
I have a passion for all things sport and have enjoyed working in various roles in Sports Development and Education. I have worked with a wide range of young people in educational settings after gaining my PGCE in Physical Education, this has included working with refugees new to the country, young people who have had issues at school, as well as being a Sports Lecturer in mainstream education for over 5 years.
I believe that young people learn best by doing! I want them to have lots of opportunities to be involved in their own communities and to have the chance to make an impact, however big or small that might be! I want them to be involved in things that challenge them and help them to grow and be ready for the rest of their lives!
