A&H Construction win Sevens title

A&H Construction claimed the main honours in the first National Corporate Sevens Tournament at Welford Road on Friday.

Sixteen teams did battle in the sunshine at the home of Guinness Premiership champions Leicester Tigers on Friday.

Wearing exclusive kits supplied for the occasion by Leicester-based Gymphlex Ltd, teams from Caterpillar, Finning, Mark Group, Jaguar, HSBC, Hilton, Lucozade Sport, A&H Construction, Sytner, William Hercock LTD, Westleigh, Kwick Collections, QV Foods, A&C Recruitment, Wragge & Co and Leicester City Council took part.

A&H Construction won the Travelex Trophy with a hard-fought 14-7 win over William Hercock in the main final.

The Plate was won by QV Foods, Lucozade Sport were the Shield winners and Sytner landed the Bowl.

Leicester City Council won the Caterpillar Fair Play Award while Luke Smith, of winners A&H Construction, was named the Travelex Player of the Tournament.

The event supported Help for Heroes, ABF The Soldiers’ Charity and the Matt Hampson Trust.

As well as the rugby, supporters and players enjoyed other entertainment, including a hog roast and BBQ, with dancing into the evening with dancing into the evening to Stonepark and to Hannah B, who will return to Welford Road on Thursday, July 15 to support Brit-Award winner, James Morrison.

Matt Poole, of organisers Tigers Events, said: “It has been great. We were very lucky with the weather, it brought people out in the right frame of mind and made for great games of rugby.

“We had 16 teams from all over the country and the rugby was really entertaining. It is not very often these guys get to play in front of a crowd so it was great for them.

“People came out from the office and supported their team and with the children’s games and face-painting it made for a great atmosphere.”

Patrick Fitzgibbon, senior vice-president, development, Hilton Worldwide, said: “The organisation from Tigers was incredible. We had guys who came from all over the country and everyone had a fantastic day.

“Martin Corry and Rory Underwood gave us some help in selecting the squad and took a training session.”

Tigers Events are already working on plans to run the tournament again next year.
