Leicester Tigers continue their National Academy League season with a fixture against Sale Sharks at Welford Road on Sunday.Kick-off is at 5pm, following the Aviva Premiership sell-out match between Tigers and Bath.
Tigers under-18 side warmed up for the league programme with four converted tries in a 28-17 victory over Cardiff Blues and then enjoyed successive league wins against Gloucester and Worcester before losing at Northampton in the run-up to Christmas.
The 17-15 victory over Gloucester was also played at Welford Road and the opportunity for another outing at the club’s home stadium is a big motivating factor for the young players.
Tosh Askew, academy assistant manager, said: “We’ve looked at the Northampton game and at the areas where the young players need to improve as individuals, as units, and as a team, as we do after any game. We now expect them to show this learning is taking place by performing to a much higher standard against Sale Sharks.
“We had a decent start to the league with back-to-back wins and now we want to see how they react to the disappointment of a poor performance two weeks ago.”
Remaining rounds in the competition include a home fixture against Leeds later this month and then a trip to Newcastle Falcons at the start of February.
