Tigers Academy open their National Academies League campaign with an away game against Sale Sharks this weekend.

Saturday’s match against Sale is at the Carrington training facility at noon on Saturday (October 26). Please note the game will not now be played at Heywood Road as originally listed.

The Tigers team topped the northern conference in the league’s inaugural season in 2012/13 and completed their preparations for the new year's programme with 11 tries in a 65-0 victory over Bicton College from Exeter at Oval Park last week.

George Tresidder scored three tries, with centre Gift Sankoh and full-back Perry Humphreys claiming two each. Other scores came from George Fossey, David Williams, Ed Milne and George Nairn.

Tigers Academy manager Neil McCarthy said: “We have a new group of players in the league programme this year, though there are a few who played at this level last season.

“There is a different mindset in league rugby because every point plays its part along the way. It is important for the squad to get used to that because that is the environment they hope to be playing in as a senior player.

“We did particularly well in this competition last year so the guys have some high standards to follow.

“There are a number of the more senior Academy players gaining experience with the Development team in the Premiership ‘A’ League this year, and the Academies League allows others to gain that competitive experience too and it gives them a sharper focus form game to game.”

After the game against Sale, the league programme resumes with a home game against Worcester Warriors on November 14. Tigers also face Northampton and Newcastle at home, with trips to Gloucester and Leeds.
