Alesana up for RPA/Sunday Times Try award

Alesana Tuilagi is in the running to win the RPA Sunday Times Try of the Year 2011.

Tuilagi’s hat-trick try in the 41-41 draw with Gloucester Rugby at Welford Road last month is on a six-strong shortlist for the award.

The Samoa international wing, who finished the Aviva Premiership regular season as the leading try scorer with 12, collected Scott Hamilton’s over the shoulder inside pass to finish off a flowing move in the left corner in front of the Goldsmiths Stand.

He faces competition from Quins wing Ugo Monye for his try against Gloucester on March 26, Saracens hooker Schalk Brits for his effort against for his try against Gloucester on April 24.

Gloucester fly-half Nicky Robinson also appears on the shortlist for his try against Bath in the West Country derby from the Recreation Ground on October 1 as does Bath scrum-half Michael Claassens for his try against Exeter Chiefs at The Rec on April 9.

The shortlist is completed by Exeter’s Sireli Naqelevuki, for his try against Northampton Saints at Sandy Park on March 6.

It will be announced at the annual RPA Computacenter Awards Dinner, which will be held at the Grosvenor House Hotel on Wednesday May 25, starting at 6.30pm.
