Anglo-Welsh best for Welford Road

Leicester Tigers will not be able to pick up the silverware in the LV= Cup this season, but the club has set one benchmark in the competition.

Sunday’s final between Northampton Saints and Gloucester Rugby will be played at the 12,000-capacity Sixways Stadium in Worcester, meaning Welford Road cannot be overtaken as home to the biggest attendance in the competition in 2009/10.

A total of 19,772 tickets were sold for the Round 3 fixture between Tigers and Bath Rugby at Welford Road, the biggest gate of the season in the LV= Cup.

That figure is also a record for the pool stages of the Anglo-Welsh competition, surpassing the previous best of 17,172 for Tigers’ home game against Sale Sharks in November 2007.

The record crowd for all games played in the Anglo-Welsh tournament was the 65,756 who witnessed the 2008 final at Twickenham between eventual winners the Ospreys and Tigers.

Tigers and Bath renew their long-standing rivalry in the next Guinness Premiership fixture at Welford Road on Saturday, April 3 (3pm). Tickets are available now. Phone the Tigers ticket hotline on 0844 856 1880, book online or call in Welford Road, the ticket office is open 8.30am-5pm Monday-Friday and 9am-5pm on Saturdays.
