Anglo-Welsh Cup round-up

Leicester Tigers remain top of their Anglo-Welsh Cup pool after Scarlets went down to defeat to Newport Gwent Dragons in their revised Round 1 fixture.

Newport made the most of a red card for Scarlets flanker Jack Condy to run out 36-21 bonus-point winners at Rodney Parade.

Nick Crosswell, Carl Meyer and Harrison Keddie crossed in the last half-hour while Sam Beard scored the first and last tries for the Dragons.

The result leaves Scarlets third in Pool 4 on five points, behind leaders Tigers (nine points) and Gloucester Rugby (six points).

Newport’s first points of the competition moved them into third in Pool 1. Northampton Saints, who visit Welford Road in Round 3 in January, top the group with Saracens in second. The date for the East Midlands derby is due to be confirmed later today.

In the other Anglo-Welsh Cup fixture of the weekend, Ospreys earned a 31-7 bonus-point win over Blues at Cardiff Arms Park to move top of Pool 2. But with every team in the group having won one game and lost one, just two points separate Ospreys from bottom side Sale Sharks.

Cardiff, meanwhile, prop up Pool 3 with just one point from their two fixtures. Harlequins top the pool with eight points from their two wins. Click here for Anglo-Welsh Cup tables.
