Auction raises funds for earthquake relief

An online auction of items donated by members of the Leicester Tigers squad has raised more than £1,500 for the earthquake relief effort in New Zealand.

Tigers and All Blacks flanker Craig Newby collected items including boots, shirts and scrumcaps from his team-mates, which were sold to the highest bidder to help the people affected by the Christchurch earthquake.

The boots Dan Hipkiss wore in scoring the winning try in last season’s Premiership final and a pair of personalised Martin Castrogiovanni boots were the most popular items and there was plenty of interest in a signed England shirt donated by George Chuter and boots worn and signed by Alesana Tuilagi and Toby Flood.

A similar auction of player items earlier this season raised £2000, while the club supporters have raised almost £20,000 from a matchday collection.

Thank you from Craig Newby and his Tigers team-mates, and from everyone at Leicester Tigers, to all of those supporters who made a bid. And well done to the winning bids. We will organise delivery very soon.
