Premiership Rugby can today announce the fixtures for the first six rounds of the Aviva Premiership Rugby season, including 18 matches to be shown live on BT Sport. With the competition starting six weeks later than normal due to the Rugby World Cup, Premiership Rugby and BT Sport have taken the unprecedented step of confirming the fixtures a full 13 weeks ahead of the first round on October 16/17/18.
This decision has been made to allow supporters and the 12 clubs time to plan for a compelling new season.
Leicester Tigers open the season away to London Irish on Sunday, October 18 and then have successive home games against Harlequins (Sunday, October 25 at 2pm) and against Wasps on Sunday, November 1, just 24 hours after the Rugby World Cup Final.
None of the Aviva Premiership Rugby matches will clash with the Rugby World Cup Final which kicks off at 4pm on Saturday, October 31.
Tigers’ trip to Exeter Chiefs in Round 4 is now a 5.30pm kick-off on Saturday, November 7 after being chosen for live coverage by BT Sport, with 2014/15 Aviva Premiership runners-up Bath the visitors to Welford Road in Round 5.
“This season we have given supporters more notice than ever before of the televised fixtures to ensure they can plan ahead. This was an important issue for us and we thank BT Sport for their co-operation to achieve this objective,” said Premiership Rugby’s commercial director Dominic Hayes.
“This is the start of a new six-year deal with BT Sport to broadcast Aviva Premiership Rugby live and, after seeing the audience grow by 50 per cent over the previous two campaigns, we are delighted to be kicking off the new era in style.”
Simon Green, head of BT Sport, said: “2015 is an exciting year for rugby and we’re looking forward to our third season of broadcasting the Aviva Premiership and continuing to grow audiences on BT Sport.”
