Belief is high at the club, says Jonny May

Jonny May says the full focus of the Tigers squad is on themselves and their own performance ahead of a trip to Paris to face Racing 92 in Round 3 of this season's Heineken Champions Cup.

Speaking at the club's Oval Park training base after what May admitted had been a "tough" few days since the 31-point loss to Bristol last weekend, the Leicester and England winger accepted they head in to Sunday's fixture as underdogs against last season's European runners up but stopped short of saying the belief within the squad was down.

“We are focusing on performance ... more so than ever it has to be about us now," May said.

“We know we’re the underdogs but that in no way means we don’t believe in ourselves.”

May says the hangover of the loss to the Bears was with him from full-time up until the squad returned to training on Tuesday morning but says after reviewing the defeat, the group had to "move on" and leave it in the past.

The outside back returned to club duties after starring for England throughout this year's autumn internationals, which he says there is inspiration in for he and his Leicester team mates after the national side suffered a similar run of disappointing results earlier this year.

“It’s not too dissimilar to what’s happening here. We dug deep, worked hard and it eventually came good," he said.

“I’m happy with where my game’s going and where I’m heading, but always trying to get better."

Looking ahead to the Champions Cup clash with a star-studded Racing 92 outfit on Sunday, May said: “These are the games you want to play in.”

Leicester Tigers travel to Paris to face Racing 92 in Round 3 of the Heineken Champions Cup  on Sunday (4.15pm local time) before welcoming the French club to Welford Road in the return fixture on Sunday, December 16 at 1.00pm in Round 4.
