Brooksby Melton College is hosting a college open day this Saturday, November 21 (10.00am-1.00pm) at the Brooksby campus.Leicester Tigers and Brooksby Melton College formed a partnership to launch a Rugby Academy during 2014/15. The partnership sees students developing their rugby skills while studying a full-time sports course at the college, as well as receiving 10 hours of coaching per week.
The Open Day will consist of an hour of Strength & Conditioning introduction (10.00-11.00am) with use of the college’s new state-of-the-art sports facility, as used by the Argentina squad during their Rugby World Cup preparations, followed by an hour’s rugby outside from 11.30am by members of the Leicester Tigers community team.
Tigers staff, college staff/lecturers and current academy students will be in attendance to offer guidance and information or answer questions/queries during the sessions.
BMC fell just short of reaching the final stages of the Association of Colleges rugby competition this year
The AoC runs regional events for all sports and invitations are extended to sixth form colleges to take part, with the winners invited to a national tournament in Newcastle during the Easter holidays. After winning four games, BMC fell just short of reaching the nationals losing 17-14 to Loughborough in the deciding game.
The vision at BMC is to attract learners who are looking to develop all aspects of their rugby in conjunction with their studying. The college runs a BTEC Level 3 Sports qualification alongside the rugby academy which enables learners to have access to 10 hours of rugby and Strength & Conditioning coaching from Tigers coaches a week.
