Bucket collection raises £6,000 for Matt

A bucket collection at the Heineken Cup semi-final between Tigers and Llanelli Scarlets at the Walkers Stadium raised over £6,000 for the Matt Hampson Trust last Saturday.

Members of the Tigers Academy and Leicester University Rugby Club, along with numerous other Tigers supporters, covered all areas of the stadium from 1pm onwards, finally finishing with a grand total of £6,066.

"It's nice to know that people are still thinking about me and helping me out," said Matt. "The day was good enough with the victory alone but the bucket collection was overwhelming. I'd like to thank all the bucket collectors and all the fans who donated so much money."

Matt now turns his attentions to what promises to be a spectacular summer ball at Marston Trussell Hall on June 23. The event will feature Tigers players past and present, with a champagne and canapés reception, a five-course silver service banquet, music from Fat Chance - stars of the Royal Variety Show, and a fantastic firework finale. To top it all, six Tigers players will take part in 'Tigers in Tights' when they try to master the art of ballet.

"I've been organising the summer ball with Peter Howard for a few months now. I honestly think it's going to be a fantastic event. If you speak to anyone involved they reckon it's going to be the event of the year. Hopefully it's not going to be a one off either. If it proves to be a success, we hope it can be the start of something special."
