Club main sponsors Caterpillar hosted the Leicester Tigers kit launch on Thursday and put the players through their paces on their machinery. The Caterpillar Visitors Centre at Desford welcomed the squad, coaching team, a group of season ticket holders and members of the media for the kit reveal before players tested their skills on the Caterpillar equipment.
Manu Tuilagi, Logovi’i Mulipola, Sebastian de Chaves and Owen Williams provided a spectacular unveiling, as they followed a Caterpillar demonstration by driving some of the equipment to the launch at the head of the playing squad.
Visitor Centre manager Jas Kundra welcomed the Tigers as part of a presentation celebrating Caterpillar’s 65 years in the UK, and club chief executive Simon Cohen spoke of the strong links between the Tigers and its main sponsors.
“We have a longstanding relationship with Caterpillar which is the envy of people within sport and within business,” said Cohen, who also tried his hand at the Operator Challenge despite being dressed in his matchday suit supplied by Savile Row tailors Chester Barrie!
“It is a very important relationship and it is great to be here for the kit launch, especially in the company of some of our season ticket holders who have had the opportunity to meet the players. We’re very grateful to Caterpillar for hosting us this afternoon.”
The squad modelled the new grey hooped alternate kit, made by partners Kooga, before they took on the Operator Challenge.
Summer signings Peter Betham and Opeti Fonua joined Tom Croft, Christian Loamanu, Mulipola and Tuilagi among the players who had lessons in operating the machinery.
“I think I was really good – perhaps it is my job after rugby!” said Fonua.
Tigers colleague Christian Loamanu picked out Tuilagi, Mulipola and new arrival Betham as the pick of the crop, and added: “I thought they'd never get off and give anyone else a try!”
