A special publication to commemorate the day when Leicester Tigers became European champions for the first time is now available at the club shop.
The draw for the 2021/22 Heineken Champions Cup this week provides a perfect opportunity to recall the players led by skipper Martin Johnson who lifted the trophy at the Parc des Princes in Paris on that famous day in 2001 when a huge contingent of travelling fans roared their support from the stands.
Read the stories behind the headlines from players, staff and many of the fans – inside the stadium and further afield – in an 84-page publication created to celebrate the landmark.
Legendary captain Johnson, double tryscorer Leon Lloyd, goalkicking hero Tim Stimpson, second-rower Ben Kay and coach John Wells are among the storytellers included and there is a ‘Matchday As Live’ account of the action plus all the facts and stats behind the game.
The 20th Anniversary Souvenir is on sale now at the Tigers club store at the stadium, price £5. It is also available online.
A European Champions Anniversary Evening at Mattioli Woods Welford Road in the company of the heroes of that afternoon has been re-arranged for a new date of Wednesday, September 29, following the delay in easing of lockdown restrictions.
The event is organised by The Sporting Club and hosted in partnership with Switch the Play Foundation, a charity co-founded by the game’s try-scoring hero Leon Lloyd and the UK's only charity dedicated to supporting all sportspeople to successfully transition into life outside of sport.
