Chuter's beard nears the end

Figure image
George Chuter gave his beard "a final run-out" at the BBC East Midlands Sports Awards on Monday night before the shave off in Leicester on Tuesday.

The Tigers and England hooker was asked to present one of the regional awards at the ceremony at Derby Assembly Rooms and was asked by special guest John Inverdale whether the beard had ever been a target for some pulling by opposition players.

“Yes, but it is coming off on Tuesday night,” Chuter said. “The players joined in with Grow A Mo for Hambo for the fund set up for Matt Hampson but we’re shaving them off on Tuesday night. So this is the beard’s last public outing!”

The Varsity on London Road in Leicester is the venue for the shave off.

Guinness will hold a competition to find the best moustache among the Tigers players and, before going under the razor, the likes of Martin Castrogiovanni, Geordan Murphy, Ben Kay and Jordan Crane will be asked to drink a half-pint of the black stuff and face a panel of judges who will decide who has the largest volume of creamy head in their ’tache.

As a thank-you to the players who are competing and attending, Guinness will make a charitable donation to the Matt Hampson Trust.

The event starts at 6pm. Supporters are welcome, with every attendee sporting a real or fake ’tache receiving a free pint of Guinness*

*subject to presentation of identification proving that the recipient is 18 or over.
This offer is only available between 6pm and 8pm on November 27, while stocks last. One pint is redeemable per person. A pint of Guinness is 2.2 units of alcohol.
