Ben Herring's impressive beard is set to be consigned to history - but not without helping the Matt Hampson Trust.
“It’s been one year since I started growing it,” says the Tigers assistant coach.
“It was something to do, something to tick off my ‘bucket list’ of things to do in my life and grow a beard for a year.”
Supporters can witness the disappearance of rugby's greatest beard when Herring shaves it off at the Coach & Horses pub in Kibworth at 8pm on Tuesday. A bucket collection will be held there in aid of the Matt Hampson Trust.
“I have grown attached to it,” he says. “But I am looking forward to it coming off in some ways.
“My daughter Huxley uses it as a bit of a swing and her grip is outstanding now. I am not going to miss that but I am probably going to be freezing in this weather.”
