Cockerill delighted with pre-season so far

Preparations for the new season will step up another notch next week when Leicester Tigers' players return to Oval Park following their training camp.

With the pre-season fixtures starting next Saturday afternoon with the trip to Cornish Pirates, acting head coach Richard Cockerill is delighted with the work done so far.

"We got the guys back together pretty early in the summer but that is because we have so many new faces and so many players away with international squads," Cockerill said.

"The training camp went well, the new guys have settled in and everyone has been working well together. Now I think everyone is looking forward to playing again."

Marco Wentzel has now arrived from Treviso in Italy and he will join fellow newcomers Richard Blaze, Mefin Davies, Ayoola Erinle, Owen Finegan, Benjamin Kayser and Boris Stankovich, and the rest of the senior squad in the build-up.

After next Saturday's game against the Pirates, the rest of the pre-season programme features games against Bedford, Nottingham, Bayonne and finally Montauban at Welford Road as well as the Middlesex Sevens before the season kicks-off with a trip to Bristol on September 16.
