Cockerill impressed by Tigers performance

Richard Cockerill described the performance in Saturday's 43-20 win over Bath Rugby as "one of the best of the season".

Alesana Tuilagi scored two of Leicester Tigers’ five tries – the first after just 37 seconds – and was joined on the scoresheet by Geoff Parling, Anthony Allen and a penalty try.

“It’s got to be up there with our best games of the season,” said Cockerill as Tigers stayed on top of the Guinness Premiership table.

“To score five tries against the form team in the league is really impressive.

“The intensity was excellent, the physicality was excellent, the lineout worked particularly well in the second half, the scrum was first rate and we scored some good tries. I’m delighted for all the guys.”

Tuilagi scored in the left-hand corner twice in the opening 16 minutes to set Tigers on their way.

“Alesana is a quality player,” said Cockerill. “He tends to play better towards the end of the season.

“But I thought the whole side was outstanding. We’re scoring tries, we’re not conceding too many, I’m delighted with the overall performances.”

Tigers are next in action against Newcastle Falcons at Kingston Park on April 18 before returning to Welford Road for the final two games of the regular league season, against Harlequins on April 24 and Saracens on May 8.
