Dan Cole has followed up his first cap for England by being named the Leicester Tigers player-of-the-month for January.

Cole won the most supporters’ votes in an online poll with Lumbers Jewellers after a series of excellent performances for Tigers, including his man-of-the-match display in the 34-8 win over London Wasps in the Guinness Premiership on January 9.

His form was rewarded with a call-up to the England squad for the Six Nations opener with Wales at Twickenham last weekend when he won his first international cap from the bench.

Tigers head coach Richard Cockerill said: “Dan has had a fantastic couple of months. He has worked really hard to get his chance and he is taking it.

“I’m delighted with his form for club and country, and we all looking forward to more success for Dan in the future.”

Leicester-born Cole, 22, joins previous winners Tom Croft, Toby Flood, Billy Twelvetrees and Ben Youngs in contention for the Lumbers Tigers Player-of-the-Season award and the chance to win a Graham watch worth more than £4,500 from Leicester jewellers Lumbers, who sponsors the award.

Dominic Gomersall, Lumbers managing director, said: “It’s great to see a local lad doing so well.”
