Contract decision was easy says Boris

Boris Stankovich says the Leicester Tigers players, coaches and supporters made it an easy decision to agree a new contract.

The popular prop says he is delighted to put pen to paper on a new deal which extends his stay at Welford Road.

“I am very happy to sign a new contract,” said the 30-year-old. “This is my fourth season at Tigers and I am very happy here and my family are settled.

“I have a lot of good friends here and I really like playing under the current coaching and management team, especially Cockers (director of rugby Richard Cockerill) and Matty (head coach Matt O’Connor).

“Cockers brought me here four years ago and I am a loyal type of guy so there’s a loyalty to him as well.

“And of course the supporters at Tigers are second to none. The atmosphere at Welford Road is fantastic, there is a real appreciation of what we do and running out in front of them at home games is awesome.”

Cockerill said: “Boris has established himself as a top-class prop in the Leicester Tigers environment and we are delighted he wants to continue playing here. We looked forward to him returning to action as quickly as possible.”

Stankovich, who is currently sidelined with a fractured eye-socket, made his first start for Tigers at Bristol on the opening day of the 2007/08 season after moving that summer from French side Albi.

He has since made more than 60 appearances and has played in three Premiership winning squads in the last four seasons.
