Richard Cockerill says the Leicester Tigers have been built on big European nights at Welford Road.
Cockerill and Tom Youngs joined the directors of rugby and captains of the other English clubs in this season’s Champions Cup for the tournament launch at the Twickenham Stoop on Wednesday.
It was a busy day of media duties for the Tigers pair, with interviews across TV, radio, newspapers and online as well as photographs and a formal launch press conference.
Tigers have been draw against defending Dan Carter’s Racing 92, the defending French champions and last season’s Champions Cup runners-up, two-time European champions Munster and 2015 Pro12 champions Glasgow Warriors in Pool 1.
Tigers kick the tournament off away to Glasgow on Friday, October 14 before welcoming Racing 92 to Welford Road in Round 2 (Sunday, October 23).
Cockerill said: “If you are going to win Europe you have to beat the best sides. There are some very good sides in there with some great history.
“We look forward to some big days and big occasions in European rugby at Welford Road, which is what the club has been all about.”
Tickets to Tigers home games against Racing 92 and Munster are now on general sale. Call the ticket office on 0116 319 8888 (option 2), book online by clicking here or buy in person from Welford Road.
