The team from Wyggeston & Queen Elizabeth I College, featuring Leicester Tigers Academy players, lost to Myerscough 17-12 in the opening play-off fixture in the AASE League season.Wyggeston opened the season with four wins from four with games at Worcester, home to Myerscough College, away at Oaklands and home against Moulton College, losing only to league leaders Hartpury.
The play-off fixture was at Myerscough College in Preston where academy hooker Luis Evitt scored one of two tries in the match. Sam Grahamslaw scored the second, with fly-half Jacob Umaga kicking the conversion.
Myerscough also scored two tries and were able to add the second conversion and a penalty to seal the 17-12 win.
Wyggeston have the second play-off match against Hartpury in Gloucester later this month.
The College team joined the AASE League this season, with the 14 teams separated into North and South pools. Each team plays each other once before splitting into top three and bottom four within their regions. They then face each other once more in the sub-groups ahead of Finals Day on December 2, where it is proposed that the top three teams in the North will meet their counterparts in the South.
