Doddie Weir said a special thank you to Leicester Tigers after more than £21,000 was raised in support of his Foundation.

Proceeds from the star-studded 125 Welford Road Dinner, held at the stadium on Tuesday night, will go to help the work of My Name’5 Doddie Foundation.

In July of this year, Weir revealed he was battling Motor Neuron Disease, a condition which progressively damages the nervous system.

His Foundation is raising funds to aid research into the causes of Motor Neurone Disease, to make grants to individuals with MND and make a difference to the lives of people battling it.

Weir said: “Thank you to everyone involved for their help – the money is going to make a difference.

“To everyone at Leicester Tigers, the players and supporters, the very best of wishes for the season,” he added.

More than 600 guests, including past captains of club and country, 10 of the club’s top-20 appearance-makers and a list of legends shared in the evening, supported by Total Motion, which celebrated Welford Road’s history.
