Leicester Tigers duo Joe Heyes and Tommy Reffell experienced mixed fortunes on the final day of the International Series in South Africa.

Tighthead prop Heyes returned to the starting line-up as England Under-18s ended their programme with a 52-22 victory over South Africa Schools, bouncing back after narrow defeat by Wales in midweek.

After Reffell captained Wales to wins in their opening two games, he was among the replacements as they missed out on a cleansweep with defeat by France in their final fixture.

After starting in the win over France in England’s opening game, Heyes was on the bench in the defeat by Wales but started again in the last game as England raced into a 19-0 half-time lead.

And although South Africa Schools fought back in the second half, closing the gap to 19-15 at one stage, but England managed five more tries to close out the win.

Reffell and Wales were denied a ‘Triple Crown’ with a 31-19 defeat to France after their opening wins over both South Africa Schools and England.

The French scored three tries in the first 17 minutes to leave Wales with an uphill battle.
