Eastmond buzzing ahead of Welford Road return

“We know what we need to do.”

That’s the message from Tigers centre Kyle Eastmond ahead of today’s (3.00pm) Gallagher Premiership derby clash with Wasps.

Eastmond, who starts at 12 against his former club this afternoon, is hugely excited for Tigers’ first home fixture for six weeks.

“We’re really positive, and we’re looking forward to this weekend,” he explained.

“It’s always awesome playing at Welford Road. The crowd are always loud and it helps us massively, so we’re going to put our best foot forward and try and put a smile on their faces.”

“I think this group of players is so mentally tough.”

Eastmond joined Tigers from Midlands rivals Wasps at the start of the season after making 16 appearances for the Coventry side, and has so far featured 15 times in the green, white and red of Leicester.

He added: “We know Wasps are a great team. They might not be playing at their best, but we know what players they’ve got.

“They’re a threat all over the field, so we’re going to have to be at our best.

“That’s why we’re putting in the work we have been doing. The detail we have gone to to try and get the win this weekend is huge, and we’re looking forward to that.”

And the attitude of the playing group should stand Tigers in good stead.

“I think this group of players is so mentally tough,” Eastmond said. “It would be quite easy for some players to get their heads down and not turn up and back up the week after.

“Things have gone wrong and we have not played to the best of our ability but we keep turning up and that's something that is in us.

“Hopefully this weekend we can add to that and get a great win.”
