Welford Road welcomed its biggest-ever European Cup crowd for the Champions Cup Pool 1 fixture between Leicester Tigers and Munster Rugby on Saturday.
A crowd of 24,213 – including a large travelling support from Ireland – produced an atmosphere worthy of a game which went down to the final seconds before Tigers were able to celebrate a 18-16 victory in the final home game before Christmas.
“It was a big rugby occasion with two outstanding sets of fans played in a fantastic atmosphere,” said Tigers director of rugby Richard Cockerill. “It’s what Welford Road is all about.
“Both teams went out there and went for it, games like that are why you want to play in the European Cup.”
