Leicester Tigers flanker Will Evans has been named in the England squad for the World Rugby Under-20 Championships this summer.

Evans, who made his Tigers debut in the Aviva Premiership win over Gloucester last month and scored in each of his subsequent appearances against Worcester and Bath, is included in a 28-man England squad for the Championships which will be held in Manchester next month (June 7-25).

Head coach Martin Haag is in charge of a team who will face Italy, Scotland and Australia in the pool stages.

Evans will be joined by several other players with Premiership experience, including Theo Brophy-Clews and Johnny Williams of London Irish, and Harry Mallinder from Northampton Saints.

England have a strong record in the tournament having reached six finals in the last eight years.

“It will be a proud moment when they pull on the white jersey and run out in front of family and friends in a home World Cup,” said Haag.

“The format of the tournament means you can’t expect anyone to play 80 minutes of every single game. We’ve picked a strong squad and we’re really looking forward to seeing all these guys in action.”

Haag’s side face Italy on June 7 at the Manchester City Academy Stadium and then Scotland on June 11, before playing Australia at Sale Sharks’ AJ Bell Stadium, on June 15.
