Silhillians and Market Harborough under-10s won the praise of Prima Tiger Cup organisers after a pulsating final at Welford Road.

Silhillians beat Harborough 1-0 to lift the trophy after a hard-fought game, which was played in a fantastic atmosphere.

Scott Clarke, Tigers community manager, said: “The final was an excellent game between two very good sides. The atmosphere inside Welford Road was brilliant and really added to the occasion. It was a great advert for the Prima Tiger Cup.

“Congratulations to Silhillians and Market Harborough and to everyone who has been involved in this season’s tournament.”

The Prima Tiger Cup is supported by Loughborough-based Prima Solutions and is a contact-based tournament open to all under-10s teams. This season more than 50 teams from across the Tigers region entered.

The final was played before Leicester took on Harlequins in the Guinness Premiership on Saturday and was watched by more than 300 supporters of both sides as well as Tigers fans.

Garry Lucas, Silhillians Under-10s team manager, said: “It was an awesome game. One try shows what a balanced match it was and how even the sides were.”

Market Harborough Under-10s head coach Graham Cook added: “It is disappointing to lose but to get this far and to get to the final is superb. The atmosphere with the supporters chanting Harborough and Sils was awesome.”

Tigers are already encouraging teams who want to take part in next season’s competition to register their interest. Contact the Tigers community team on 0844 856 1880 or visit the community section of the Tigers website by clicking here.
