Leicester Tigers will run supporter coaches to away games in the new season with places available to book for the full campaign or on a match-by-match basis.
Tigers kick off the season at home to Exeter Chiefs on September 18 and will begin the new travel arrangements with a supporters’ coach to Gloucester for Round 2 of the Gallagher Premiership campaign on Friday, September 24.
For all Gallagher Premiership away games, the club will be operating an access-for-all bus with departure from the Crumbie car park at Mattioli Woods Welford Road stadium, planning to arrive at away grounds an hour-and-a-half ahead of kick-off and leave one hour after the final whistle.
After more than 20 years of organising travel for the Away Supporters’ Club, John Griffiths is handing over the logistics but will remain a familiar face on the trips booked through the ticket office as he continues to enjoy matchdays among friends and family.
John has organised travel for thousands of supporters during the last two decades including, famously, taking 500 fans to the Heineken Cup Final in Paris in 2001.
“Tigers always have a very good following at away games and it’s been a pleasure to be part of that over many seasons,” said John.
“We’ve been talking about the next steps and about how we can create the best experience for supporters to travel around the country. Now we’re looking forward to being able to get behind the team again wherever they are playing.”
Tigers head of brand Chris Rose added: “The support for Tigers home and away is known throughout rugby and the club are determined to provide opportunities to help fans to follow the team every week.
“John has played a huge part in organising travel on a voluntary basis over the years and we’re delighted that he will still be part of our travel plans in the new season.”
Places are now available to book on a seasonal basis covering coach travel to/from all 12 games in the Gallagher Premiership at a cost of £220 per adult or £120 for under-18s (just over £18 per game for adults or £10 per game under-18s).
