French visitors head to Welford Road

Leicester Tigers' pre-season programme will reach a climax with a fixture at Welford Road against French Top-14 visitors Montauban on Saturday, September 8.

The build-up to the new Guinness Premiership season also features four away fixtures, including short trips to Bedford and Nottingham.

"We probably have more games this year in the pre-season programme but that is because we have a lot of guys away on international duty and a lot of new faces in the squad," Richard Cockerill, Tigers' acting head coach, said.

"There is a lot of work to do on new combinations in the team and on organisation, so we have a number of games organised before the league starts. They are all there to build up to the start of the Guinness Premiership season."

Tigers begin with a trip to the South-West to face Cornish Pirates on Saturday, August 4, and follow with games at Bedford and Nottingham on successive weekends.

There is also a fixture away to Bayonne in south-west France on September 1 before the home match against Montauban.

Last season it was Toulon who travelled across the Channel for Tigers' pre-season fixture, with Tigers winning 39-19 at Welford Road.

Montauban finished seventh in the French Top-14 last season and will compete in the European Challenge Cup in 2007/08.

Ticket details for the Montauban fixture will be revealed on the Tigers official club website soon.
