Future and former Tigers face-off in Championship

Future and former Leicester Tigers players faced off on the international stage during the second round of The Rugby Championship when Australia took on Argentina in Brisbane on Saturday at Suncorp Stadium.

Tomas Lavanini, who will link up with the Leicester club following the international calendar including this year's World Cup in Japan, started in the second-row for Los Pumas in their six-point, 10-16 defeat at the hands of the Wallabies alongside former Tigers back-rower Pablo Matera.

Matera was one of two former Tigers involved in the fixture as well as incoming forward Lavanini, with Matt Toomua used off the bench by the Wallabies at fly-half.

Tatafu Polota-Nau, who returned to Australia at the beginning of the week to join the Australian squad, watched on from the stands after missing out on selection for the Round 2 fixture and will remain with the Wallabies squad as they prepare for their game against the All Blacks in Perth on Saturday, August 10 in the third week of the competition.

In the Championship's other fixture, South Africa came from behind to register a 16-16 draw with the All Blacks in New Zealand after Herschel Jantjes came off the bench to score a try with less than a minute remaining on the clock after latching onto a Cheslin Kolbe chip and juggling before crossing.

Fly-half Handre Pollard secured the draw with a successful conversion attempt after the siren which saw the Springboks complete the second weekend of fixtures atop the competition ladder.
