Get a taste of Tigers at BMC Open Day

Young players are being invited to find out more about Leicester Tigers' unique partnership with a local college this weekend.

Brooksby Melton College, in Melton Mowbray, is hosting an Open Day and Taster Day this Saturday, June 22 and provides a perfect opportunity to find out more about studying and getting involved in their rugby programme, delivered in partnership with Tigers.

The Taster Day is designed to showcase facilities for anyone interested in studying Sport or Sport Science alongside participation in the development rugby academy, while an Open Day provides the chance to find out more about a range of other academic subjects alongside rugby coaching and playing.

The BMC development team – trained by Tigers community coaches through the Achieving Academic and Sporting Excellence (AASE) programme – plays in college competitions while players receive up to eight hours of coaching and rugby a week.

The Brooksby side scooped the Under-18 Schools County Cup title earlier this year, while the college also celebrated international recognition for a number of players including Tigers Academy trio George Martin (England Under-18s), Alex Maxwell (Scotland Under-18s) and Leo Gilliland (Wales Under-18s).

BMC captain Josh Brown was selected by England Counties and there were also call-ups at England Under-17 level and for players representing other countries including Italy, Hungary and Ukraine.

As part of Taster Day, there is a rugby session scheduled for 10am to 12pm, while the rugby session for Open Day visitors is between 12pm and 1pm following opportunities to find out more about the college curriculum.

All prospective students who are interested in the rugby programme should meet at 9.30am at the Grafton building, and are asked to bring indoor and outdoor kit.
