Gillanders unable to see England through

Figure image
Leicester lock Gregor Gillanders made his third successive appearance of the IRB U-19 World Championship in Belfast in a dogged defensive display against New Zealand.

Gillanders came off the bench in the closing stages of the first half as the Baby Blacks triumphed 34-13 with tries from Kade Poki (2), Ryan Crotty, Wayne Ngaluafe and Zach Guildford. Fly-half Daniel Kirkpatrick added a penalty and two conversions, and full-back Israel Dagg a conversion.

Scrum-half Joe Simpson scored England's second-half try with full-back Alex Goode stroking over two penalties and a conversion in reply, but the result means England are now playing for fifth place.
