Gritty win showed our heart, says Thompstone

Adam Thompstone says Leicester Tigers' gritty win in tough conditions away to Benetton Treviso underlined the heart of the squad.

Thompstone scored his first Heineken Cup try and sixth so far this season in the first half of Saturday’s 14-13 win at the Stadio di Monigo.

But Tigers trailed their Italian hosts 13-7 with time running out before a penalty try at scrum time gave Richard Cockerill’s men a hard-earned victory

“The boys showed really good heart,” said Thompstone, the Goldsmiths Player of the Month for November. “We stuck at it in difficult conditions and I thought we definitely we deserved the win.

“I enjoyed the try. Ben Youngs started it off, there was some nice passes in midfield and then a great pass from Tone and a run in for me. I saw the break and just tried to keep up with it.

“It was nice to get my first Heineken Cup try but it was important that we got the win, that was the main thing.”

Tigers are back in Heineken Cup action in January when they travel to Ospreys in round five before hosting French giants Toulouse. Tickets for the Toulouse clash are on sale now from the Welford Road ticket office, on 0844 856 1880 and online by clicking here
